Terms of use
Last updated: October 2026
These terms explain how Zibbo works and the rules for using it. Please read them. The most important points: Zibbo connects Clients and Pros and isn't part of any job agreement; a badge records only the check it names and isn't an endorsement; after the launch offer, Pros pay a $5.00 CAD connection fee for each new Client; and Zibbo's responsibility is limited (sections 19 to 22).
1. Who we are
Zibbo Marketplace (“Zibbo”, “we”, “us”) runs the website zibbo.ca. Zibbo is a business based in British Columbia, Canada. You can reach us at hello@zibbo.ca or by mail at PO Box 1604, Summerland BC V0H 1Z0.
These terms are an agreement between you and Zibbo. By creating an account or using the site, you agree to them. If you don’t agree, please don’t use Zibbo.
These terms work together with our Privacy notice and our BC rules page, which form part of them.
2. Key words
- “Client” means someone who posts a task.
- “Pro” means someone who offers to do tasks. One account can be both.
- “Task” means a job a Client posts on Zibbo.
- “Connection” means the point where a Client and a Pro have both agreed to go ahead with a task and their contact details are shared.
3. What Zibbo is, and what it isn’t
Zibbo is an online notice board that helps people in the Okanagan find each other. Clients post tasks. Pros say they’re interested. If both agree, we share contact details so they can arrange the job themselves.
Zibbo is a connection service only. We don’t employ Pros, assign jobs, set prices, supervise or inspect work, or handle payment for the job. Any agreement for the work is made directly between the Client and the Pro. Zibbo is not a party to it.
Zibbo doesn't screen, vet, recommend or endorse anyone. A badge on a profile records only the check it names, as explained on our What badges mean page. Email verified means the person confirmed their email address. Phone verified means they entered a code sent by text message. Zibbo doesn't check anyone's background, criminal record, credentials, licences, insurance or work history. Star ratings are the opinions of other users about completed jobs. A licence tick is the Pro's own statement and isn't checked by us.
4. Who can use Zibbo
- You must be at least 19 years old (the age of majority in BC).
- You must give your real name and accurate information, and keep it up to date.
- You may have one account. Don’t share it, and keep your password private. You’re responsible for what happens under your account.
- If you use Zibbo for a business, you confirm you’re allowed to accept these terms for that business.
- You can’t use Zibbo if we’ve closed your account before.
5. Pros are independent
Pros are independent people or businesses. They are not Zibbo’s employees, agents, partners or contractors. Pros decide which tasks to respond to, what to charge, when and how they work, and whether to work for a Client at all. Pros may work anywhere else, including on other sites.
Pros are responsible for their own taxes, business registration, WorkSafeBC coverage, insurance, tools, licences, permits and safety, and for the quality and legality of their work.
6. What Pros promise
Each time a Pro says they’re interested in a task, the Pro promises that:
- they have the skills, tools and experience the task needs, and will do the work safely and with reasonable care;
- they hold every licence, certificate, permit and insurance policy the work requires (see section 8);
- their profile, skills and licence ticks are true and up to date;
- they will follow the law, including WorkSafeBC, tax and consumer protection rules that apply to them;
- they will agree the price, scope and timing directly with the Client, preferably in writing, before starting.
Pros are responsible for anyone they bring to help on a job.
7. What Clients are responsible for
- Choosing a Pro. Ask for references, check ratings, and ask to see a copy of any licence and insurance before work starts.
- Describing the task honestly, including any hazards (such as dogs, steep ground, ladders, chemicals or water).
- Getting any permits the job needs, and knowing whether the job needs a licensed trade.
- Your own obligations as a hirer. Under WorkSafeBC rules, a homeowner can become an employer if they hire someone who isn’t registered with WorkSafeBC for larger jobs. See our BC rules page.
- Your own home and property insurance.
- Paying the Pro the agreed price for a completed job. A Pro can report Client didn't pay from a completed job. Our team checks it with both sides. The first confirmed report adds a 1-star Didn't pay mark to the Client's rating. A second confirmed report closes the account: the Client can't log in to post or chat, and open tasks close. We email the Client when a report is filed and when the account closes. When a report is confirmed or not confirmed, we email the Client and the Pro who reported it.
8. Licences, permits and insurance
Pros are solely responsible for holding and keeping every licence, certificate, permit, bond and insurance policy their work requires. Zibbo stores no licence numbers or documents on profiles, and doesn't check any copy shared in a chat. When a Pro ticks “I hold the required licence”, that tick is the Pro’s own statement, saved with the time it was made. It is not a check, review or badge from Zibbo. Clients should ask to see a copy of the Pro’s licence before work starts.
9. Tasks that aren’t allowed
You may not post, offer or accept any task on our list of tasks that aren’t allowed (on the BC rules page), or any task that is illegal or that needs a licence, permit or certification the Pro doesn’t hold. A task title or description that includes swearing or insults is turned down. Please reword it and keep it about the job. We may remove a task, hide it from Pros or close an account if we think a task breaks this rule.
10. Rules of conduct
When you use Zibbo, you must not:
- harass, threaten, abuse or discriminate against anyone, including on grounds protected by the BC Human Rights Code;
- post anything false, misleading, illegal, hateful or sexual, or anyone else’s personal information without permission;
- impersonate anyone, create fake or duplicate accounts, or post fake tasks;
- scam, defraud or ask anyone for payment details, passwords or one-time codes;
- share contact details before a task is agreed, or otherwise get around the connection fee;
- use another user’s contact details for anything other than the task you agreed on, or add them to a mailing list;
- copy, scrape or collect data from Zibbo with bots or scripts, or try to break, overload or get around its security;
- use Zibbo to advertise or recruit for anything other than real tasks.
11. The connection fee, the launch offer and refunds
Posting a task and browsing are free. When a Client and a Pro both agree to go ahead with a task, the Pro pays a $5.00 connection fee for each new Client to see that Client's contact details and the task address. The price is shown before the Pro pays. Prices are in Canadian dollars. Applicable taxes, if any, are shown before payment.
Repeat tasks with the same Client are free. During the launch offer, each Pro's first 2 new Clients are free until the end date shown on the site. After a Pro has used those 2, or after the end date, whichever comes first, each new Client is $5.00 CAD. A connection covered by a Zibbo credit is free.
The fee pays for the introduction only. It is not a deposit or payment for the work, and it is not shared with the Client.
Payments are processed by Stripe. We don’t see or store your full card number.
The fee is non-refundable once contact details are shown, except as set out here (the Zibbo Promise):
- We return the fee automatically if the Client doesn't reply in the chat within 48 hours after the Pro pays, if the Client blocks the Pro, or if either person files a safety report about the other on that connection.
- We refund the fee or give a free connection credit if the Client cancels before the job is done, if the task broke our rules or was fake, or if a technical problem meant the details couldn't be seen. Ask within 30 days at hello@zibbo.ca.
A fee paid by card is refunded to the card through Stripe. A fee covered by a Zibbo credit is returned as a credit. A free launch connection has no fee to return. This doesn't limit any refund rights you have under the law.
We may change the fee in future. We’ll post the new price on the site before it applies, and it won’t apply to a connection you’ve already paid for.
12. Chats and contact details
Chats are checked automatically as they’re sent, to keep phone numbers, emails and links out until a task is agreed, and to spot scams and abuse. Messages that go through, and any photos or PDFs sent with them, are saved so both people can read them while the job is active, and are deleted 30 days after the job ends. Only send files you have the right to share. If someone reports a chat, Zibbo may review it to decide what to do.
Please don’t try to get around the connection fee by sharing contact details before a task is agreed.
13. Ratings, reports and fair use
After either person taps Mark job done, each side can leave one star rating for that job. Each star is a short label for what happened, from a no-show up to everything going as described. For 1 to 3 stars you can tick the issues that fit. For 4 or 5 stars you can tick what went well. You can add a comment. 1 or 2 stars need a short note saying what happened. There is one rating per side and it can't be changed. Stars stay hidden until both sides rate, or until 7 days after Mark job done.
A confirmed Didn't pay mark is added by our team after both sides have been heard. It counts in the Client rating right away, and it is not a star the Client and Pro pick.
Ratings must be honest and based on a real job. Don’t rate yourself, rate a friend for a job that didn’t happen, offer or accept anything in return for a rating, or threaten a bad rating. A review comment, the note for 1 or 2 stars, and a public reply can't include swearing or insults. We ask you to reword it, and the text stays in the box so you can edit it. Public pages show the star label. A 4 or 5 star review may also show the comment and the positive ticks, with the reviewer's first name, last initial and town. Issue tags from a lower rating are kept so we can review it, and are not shown as a public checklist. The person rated can post one public reply, and can dispute a rating that doesn't match what happened. We may keep or remove it. Only stars from jobs marked done are shown, and each is labelled Completed job.
You can report or block anyone. Please report anything unsafe, illegal or abusive.
14. Your content
You own what you post (such as tasks, profiles and messages). You give Zibbo permission to store, show and copy it on Zibbo as needed to run the service. You confirm you have the right to post it, and that it doesn’t include anyone else’s personal information without their permission. We may remove content that breaks these terms or the law.
15. Zibbo’s site and name
The Zibbo name, logo, design, software and content we create belong to Zibbo. You may use the site for its intended purpose only. Don’t copy, sell or reuse any part of it without our written permission.
16. Safety
In an emergency, call 911. Zibbo can't send help. Meet safely, trust your instincts, and stop a job if it feels unsafe. Use Report on a profile, a task or a chat, or email hello@zibbo.ca. Safety reports are read first, within 1 business day. We may share information with the police or other authorities when the law allows or requires it.
17. Suspending or closing accounts
You can close your account at any time from your account page or by emailing hello@zibbo.ca.
We may suspend or close an account, remove content, or limit features if we reasonably believe someone has broken these terms or the law, put others at risk, or harmed Zibbo or its users. Where it’s safe and practical, we’ll tell you why. Fees already used aren’t refunded, except as set out in section 11.
18. Other services and links
Zibbo uses other companies to run parts of the service, such as Stripe for payments. Their own terms may also apply to you. Links to other websites, such as licence look-ups, are for convenience. We’re not responsible for those sites.
19. No guarantees
Zibbo is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the extent the law allows, we make no promises about the users, tasks, quality, safety or legality of any work, or that the site will always be available or error-free.
20. Limits on our liability
To the extent the law allows:
- Zibbo is not responsible for what users do or fail to do, including the work, payment, injury, damage, loss or theft connected with a task.
- Zibbo is not responsible for indirect or consequential losses, such as lost profit, lost data or lost opportunity.
- Zibbo’s total responsibility to you for all claims is limited to the greater of (a) the fees you paid to Zibbo in the 12 months before the claim arose, or (b) $100.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that can’t be limited by law, including for our own fraud, gross negligence or wilful misconduct, or for death or personal injury we cause.
21. Covering our costs (indemnity)
If someone makes a claim against Zibbo because of your task, your work, your content, how you dealt with another user, or your breach of these terms or the law, you agree to cover Zibbo’s reasonable losses and legal costs from that claim, to the extent the law allows.
22. Disputes between users
Any dispute about a job is between the Client and the Pro. We encourage you to talk first. Small claims in BC (up to $5,000) usually go to the Civil Resolution Tribunal. To the extent the law allows, you release Zibbo from claims arising from disputes with other users. If you can't settle it, use the dispute form for a rating, or Report for safety or conduct problems. We reply to messages and reports within 1 business day, and safety reports go first. We may help both sides reach an outcome, but Zibbo doesn't decide who is right about the work, doesn't guarantee an outcome, and doesn't pay for the work or for any damage.
23. Disputes with Zibbo, and BC law
If you have a problem with Zibbo, email hello@zibbo.ca first and give us 30 days to try to fix it. These terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Claims go to the courts of British Columbia, or to the Civil Resolution Tribunal where it has jurisdiction.
24. Your consumer rights
Nothing in these terms takes away rights you have under the Business Practices and Consumer Protection Act (BC) or any other law that can’t be waived.
25. Changes to Zibbo and to these terms
We may change, add or remove features of Zibbo, or stop offering it, at any time. If we stop offering Zibbo, we’ll give you reasonable notice where we can.
We may update these terms. We’ll post the new version with its date and, for important changes, tell you by email or on the site at least 14 days before they apply. If you keep using Zibbo after that, the new terms apply. If you don’t agree, you can close your account.
26. Notices and emails
You agree that we can send you notices and receipts by email or on the site, and that these count as “in writing”. Keep your email address up to date. You can send notices to us at hello@zibbo.ca.
27. General
These terms, the Privacy notice and the BC rules are the whole agreement between you and Zibbo about using the site. If part of these terms can’t be enforced, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce something right away, we can still enforce it later. You may not transfer your account or these terms to anyone else. Zibbo may transfer them if the business is sold, reorganized or becomes a company. Sections that by their nature should continue after your account closes (such as fees owed, content licence, no guarantees, limits on liability, indemnity and disputes) continue to apply.
