Privacy notice
Last updated: October 2026
This notice explains what personal information Zibbo collects, why, who it’s shared with, how long we keep it, and how you can see, correct or delete it.
1. Who is responsible
Zibbo Marketplace (“Zibbo”) is responsible for personal information about you. Zibbo is based in British Columbia and follows BC’s Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), and Canada’s federal privacy law (PIPEDA) where it applies.
Privacy Officer: hello@zibbo.ca, or PO Box 1604, Summerland BC V0H 1Z0. Contact the Privacy Officer with any question, request or complaint about your information.
2. What we collect
- Account: name, email, password (stored only as a scrambled hash), town, optional phone, and whether you use Zibbo as a Client, a Pro or both.
- Pro profile: skills, tools, task types, bio, and any “I hold the required licence” tick with the time it was made. No licence numbers or documents.
- Tasks: title, description, budget, timing, town and the street address.
- Chats, ratings, rating disputes, reports, blocks, and a non-payment report on a completed job (who reported it, the job, and whether we confirmed it). We email the Client when a report is filed and when the account closes. When a report is confirmed or not confirmed, we email the Client and the Pro who reported it.
- Ratings: the star you chose, the issue tags or positive ticks, a comment if you wrote one, the short note required for 1 or 2 stars, and one public reply from the person rated. Public pages show the star label, the comment and the reply. A 4 or 5 star review may also show the positive ticks, with your first name, last initial and town. Issue tags from a lower rating are shown to our team when a rating is reviewed.
- Trust badges: the date you confirmed your email; if text verification is turned on, the date you confirmed your phone (the code itself isn't stored).
- Connection fee payments: Stripe processes payments. We receive a record of each payment, such as the amount, date, status, Stripe's processing fee and any refund, but never your full card number.
- Messages you send us by email, and voicemails left on our phone line (including the recording, a written transcript and the caller’s number).
- Technical and security data: a sign-in cookie, login attempts, and the IP address used for security and rate limits.
- Site statistics: pages viewed, some button clicks, the page that sent you and campaign tags. See section 6.
- If you send feedback, we keep the rating, what you wrote, the page you were on, the kind of device, and an email only when you leave one for a reply.
3. Why we use it
- To run your account and show tasks and Pros near you.
- To connect a Client and a Pro once both agree, and share contact details at that point.
- To process connection fees and keep financial records.
- To keep Zibbo safe: checking chats for contact details and scams, handling reports, disputes and blocks, and preventing fraud and abuse.
- To send service emails, such as sign-in links, task updates and receipts.
- To answer your messages and voicemails.
- To understand how the site is used, in summary form, so we can improve it.
- To meet legal obligations.
We don’t sell personal information. We use it only for these purposes, or as the law allows or requires.
4. Your consent
By creating an account or using Zibbo, you consent to us collecting, using and sharing your information as this notice describes. Where the law allows, we may also collect, use or share information without consent, for example to investigate fraud, respond to a legal order, or protect someone’s safety.
5. What other people see
Public pages show a Pro's first name, town, skills, tools, stars, number of completed jobs, the month they joined, their typical reply time, any badges and any self-declared licence. A public review shows the star's label, and may include the rater's comment and one reply. A 4 or 5 star review may also show the positive ticks. Issue tags from a lower rating are not published. Once there are enough reviews, the home page may show stars from completed jobs with the reviewer's first name, last initial and town. They don’t show a phone number, email, postal code or street address. Those appear only to the Client and Pro after a task is agreed and any connection fee is settled.
6. When else we share information
- With the police, courts or regulators when the law requires or allows it, or to protect someone’s safety.
- With our professional advisers, such as a lawyer, accountant or insurer, who must keep it confidential.
- If the business is sold, reorganized or becomes a company, with the new owner, who must use it as this notice describes.
7. Service providers and where your information is stored
We use these service providers to run Zibbo. They may only use your information to provide their service to us.
- Fly.io: hosts the website and database on servers in Toronto, Canada.
- Resend (United States): sends our emails. Email content and delivery records are stored in the United States.
- Twilio (United States): runs our phone line, records and transcribes voicemails, and, if text verification is turned on, sends phone verification codes.
- Stripe: processes connection fee payments. Stripe is a United States company and may process payment information outside Canada.
Information stored or processed outside Canada is subject to the laws of that country, and may be accessed by courts, law enforcement or national security authorities there.
8. Cookies and site statistics
We use one sign-in cookie to keep you logged in. If you tick “Remember me”, it lasts up to 30 days.
We count page views and some button clicks with our own simple statistics tool. We don’t use advertising cookies or third-party trackers. To count visits, we combine your IP address and browser type with a secret key that changes every day. We store only the resulting code, not your IP address.
9. Chat checks
Each message is checked automatically as it’s sent for phone numbers, email addresses and links. A blocked message isn’t delivered or saved. Messages that go through are saved so both people can read them again while the job is active, and are deleted 30 days after the job ends. Photos and PDFs sent in a chat are kept privately with that chat: only the two people in it can open them, and Zibbo can if the chat is reported. We remove location details from photos, and the files are deleted with the chat's messages. A report records who reported, who was reported, the task, a reason and the time, not the message text. If a chat is reported, Zibbo may review it to decide what to do.
10. Phone calls and voicemail
If you call Zibbo and leave a voicemail, it’s recorded and transcribed by Twilio so we can reply. Our greeting says so before the beep. If you’d rather not be recorded, email hello@zibbo.ca instead. We delete voicemails and transcripts 90 days after we’ve dealt with them.
11. How long we keep information
- Account and profile: while your account is open. After you ask us to delete it, we delete or anonymize it within 30 days, except as below.
- Badge dates: while your account is open.
- Rating notes, issue tags and replies: with the rating record, so a dispute can be checked.
- Chats: 30 days after the job ends.
- Payment records: 6 years, as Canadian tax law requires.
- Reports, blocks, rating disputes and account suspensions: at least 1 year after a decision, so you can ask about it, and longer if needed for safety or a legal claim.
- Site statistics: kept as daily totals and codes that can’t identify you.
12. Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, how it’s been used and who it’s been shared with; to correct it; or to delete your account. You can also withdraw consent, though some features may then stop working. Email hello@zibbo.ca from your account email (we may ask you to confirm it’s you). We’ll answer within 30 days. There’s no charge.
If you’re not satisfied with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner for BC (oipc.bc.ca).
13. Keeping your information accurate
You can update most of your information on your account page. Please keep it accurate.
14. Security and breaches
We use reasonable safeguards, including encrypted connections, hashed passwords, access limits and rate limits. No system is perfect. If a breach of your information creates a real risk of significant harm to you, we’ll tell you and the relevant privacy regulator as soon as we can.
15. Emails from Zibbo
We send emails you need to use Zibbo, such as sign-in links and task updates. We’ll only send news or offers if you’ve agreed, and every such email has an unsubscribe link. We act on an unsubscribe within 10 business days.
16. Age
Zibbo is for people 19 and over. We don’t knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If we learn we have, we’ll delete it.
17. Changes
We’ll post any update here with its date, and tell you by email about important changes.
